I can erase the deficit

Before I start laying out my plan please understand the following.  This blog is about me daydreaming.  I have not researched any of the data, I am not a profesional in the field of finance.  What I am is a daydreamer who is going to pull this country out of the situation that we are currently in.

2 things.  Welfare and loopholes.

First we need to reform welfare.  It needs to become what it was always meant to be and that is a way to help people who truely need.  It should be a means to keep people afloat when unexpected tough times come.  There has to be an accountablility in order to receive any government assistance.  In other words the days of sitting at home, not trying to work and receiving a monthly check need to end.  Instead of extending and increasing these entitlements, the government need to be decreasing and regulating them.  Under the current plan a person can make more money on unemployment than they can working a minimum wage job.  If your skill or education level dictates that you are likely to only be able to get a minimum wage job, why would you even go look for one.  Just sit at home for 1 yr and collect from the goverment.  What the government should do is reduce the unemployment to slightly less than what you could be making if you were working.  Help the person get by but make it a struggle.  They should align themself with a private staffing company (don't start another government buracracy) give the names of the people who are receiving assistance to that staffing company with the understanding that the company will make every attempt to offer the person work.  If the person goes to work great.  If they choose not to go to work then their benefit should be taken away.  Ok so this works to restructure unemployment but what about people with disabilities?
Here is another idea.  What if the government worked with a bank to create a subsidized saving account.  If a person is working they can have pretax money placed into a savings account.  The bank would give a good interest rate do to the sheer volume they would get.  The goverment would also match up to a certain % (far less than what they are paying out in unemployment benefits).  If you became unable to work you could then draw on this account.  you may also be entitled to additional help from the government but only if you have done the responsable thing and contribute previously to one of these funds.  This is not insurance.  This is your money to do with what you want.  This would be the governments way of helping people be more responsable and more financially independent.

Second thng is loop holes. I dont know much about it but I know that there are plenty of ways to get around paying your taxes.  I have nothing against rich people.  As a matter of fact I hope to be one some day.  I do have a problem with people getting away with out paying their taxes because they are rich.  If everyone paid the taxes that they should be paying we would have much more money than we would get by increasing the taxes on the middle class and leaving those loop holes open for the rich and the big corporations to squeeze through.  i mean less face it if yo are worth 10million and you have to pay 2 million in taxes.  You are still worth 8million which should be plenty to live on while still giving the government 2 million.  It would take 50 middle class people giving up the same % of their income to reach the same amount of taxes.  The guy with 10million is going to feed the economy about the same regardless if he has 10million left or 8million left, however the 50 people that went from 200,000 down to 160,000 are going to have to tighten there belts.  That is not good for the economy.  Its not that the tax rates are not high enough its that the people with the most money arent paying at the rate that they should be.

Here is something else, and this was not one of my original points.  Stop helping everyone else until we solve our issues at home.  Do you realize that the money that we are giving away to places like Haiti and Japan is borrowed money?  Not only are we giving away the money but now we are paying interest on it.  Eventually we are going to be at the point where we can no give any money away because our economy is so screwed up.  How about we spend the money here, we get back on our feet and then in the longrun we will be able to give more away without going into debt or hurting ourselves.  There is a financial adviser whos name is Dave Ramsey,  His whole concept is based on this.  Get debt free so that you can afford to give more back.

Maybe this is not the complete answer but it certainly would be a good starting point.  By the way I think most people already know all of this they are just afraid to do anything about it.  Policitians dont want to reform welfare because that may look politically incorrect and God forbid that.  Policitians dont want to reform tax codes and make the rich be responsable.  Who would fund their campaigns.  In hte end it is about poloticians getting re elected.  i thnk some politicians do care about the people that they represent.  They just care more about themselves and getting re elected.  They always say "this is an important issue but its not something that can be resolved over night.  I have to get re elected so that I have time to deal with this issue."

What goes on in my head?

I am a middle aged guy who on the inside still believes I am 22 years old.  Most of the things that I did when I was 22, there is no way I could do now but I still like to think about doing them.  Things like rock climbing, mountain biking, playing soccer, running for miles.  I also like to dream about what I am gong to be when I grow up.  What kind of business I am going to have, how much money I am going to make and how I am going to spend it.  Sometimes I think about life after I make all of my money and how I am going to retire.  Some of my dreams have a little bit of reality to them, others are pretty far fetched.  Sometimes I am saving the world from whoever the villan of the day is or sometimes I am just wondering about how current events will play out.

Hopefully you will have fun seeing how my mind unfolds.

Enjoy!
